I'm going to try and get in early this time!
When Firefox 3.0 was released, I tried to warn Wizz RSS users that their feeds might go missing and that they should do an OPML export
before upgrading! Of course, as is the norm, many people chose to ignore my warning! What's worse is that those who chose to ignore my warning then got on my case when their feeds went missing... Typical!
So here we go again: -
WARNING! Please backup your feeds before upgrading to Firefox 3.5!
There are two different ways in which you can backup your feeds: -
- Use the OPML Export functionality which is available under Options etc. on the Wizz RSS toolbar.
- Use the Save Feeds to Server functionality which is available under Options etc. on the Wizz RSS toolbar.

Wizz RSS 3.1.0.1
3.1.0.1 is pretty much the same as 3.1.0.0 but a few minor modifications have been made.
You can get 3.1.0.1 here: -
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/424
Bug fixes and changes in 3.1.0.1: -
Firstly, and probably most importantly, 3.1.0.1 includes a fix for a security hole that could be exploited by malicious code. It is therefor wise to upgrade to 3.1.0.1. Thanks to those who made me aware of the security hole.
Secondly, I have fixed the toolbar buttons that were looking pretty silly in the version of 3.1.0.1 that was released through the
Wizz RSS blog.
Thirdly, I have updated the de-DE locale with the latest version released through Babalzilla.
Lastly, I have added a new option to the
Feeds tab on the
Options page. The
Feeds tab now includes a
Preview Mode option, and the
Preview Mode option has two options (Grayed out when Preview Mode is not selected). When the
Preview Mode option is selected, Wizz RSS will automatically display the feed preview page when a feed is read. This functionality was suggested by Peter Lairo.
For those who are unfamiliar with Wizz RSS' ability to display a feed preview (I suspect there are many), this is what the preview page looks like: -
It is possible to "skin" the preview page. Please see
http://www.wizzrss.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4 for details on how to do so.
A two column preview skin is available here: -

Wizz RSS Lite 3.0.0.9
Wizz RSS Lite 3.0.0.9 is a beta for Firefox 3.1 and you can get it here: -
http://wizzrss.blat.co.za/2008/12/15/wizz-rss-lite-3009-beta-for-firefox-31b2/
Wizz RSS Lite 3.1.0.1 has also been submitted to AMO for review, but as is pretty typical with AMO, making new versions public, as a result of the review process, takes a very long long time - Even after they get on your case about pluging vulnerabilities! If you want/need 3.1.0.1, please get on their case in IRC - irc://moznet/amo
Wizz RSS C#
Wizz RSS C# is a C# version of Wizz RSS News Reader. It is currently in beta and, if interested, you can read more about it
here and
here.
The C# version of Wizz RSS is built on msfeeds.dll and it requires the dot Net framework version 2.0 or greater and Internet Explorer 7 or 8.
If you'd like to beta test the C# version of Wizz RSS, you can download it
here.
Wizz RSS online help
The online help Wiki is broken. I'll get around to fixing it soon.
Wizz RSS Localization
For those of you who are unaware of the process of localization, it is the process by which all of the labels and messages, used by a piece of software, are translated into various different languages. The process of localization thus makes that software available to more people in their native language.

Crosswords for Firefox
Just a bit of fun that might interest some of you: -

It's still in the AMO sandbox.
Encrypted Bookmarks for Firefox
About two years ago (Or more) I wrote a little extension for Firefox 2 that Blowfish encrypted the bookmarks. Due to various health issues at the time, I was unable to continue development and maintenance of the extension. With the health issues being a thing of the past (I hope), I decided to rewrite the extension for Firefox 3.
The Encrypted Bookmarks for Firefox extension is very much in beta and should be used with extreme caution. If you'd like to test it and offer some feedback, you can get it here: -
